Ok, this thing is giving me fits. The vendor it was bought from is out of state and no longer sells or supports the unit. GE refers me to a local vendor - whom I didn't buy the unit from, we'll see if they will help.

The issue is that it runs continuously. Sometimes a .6gal/min, sometimes a fairly slow leak out of the waste water line.
It's configured differently than OEM as the faucet is *not* an air gap faucet. The OEM faucet will not work in our thickness of counter and GE doesn't provide an alternate solution.

We've tried replacing all 3 filters (about $250) - making sure they were properly seated, allowing the air to bleed out of the system.
Occasionally the system will not leak and will function properly, but I find myself manually shutting off the water as over a week, it will go through 1000 gallons or more.

How do the valves in the system work to cut off water flow?
Our input pressure varies from 40-70psi (well water).
Measured pressure on the faucet varies from about 5psi (leaking waste water) to 20 psi (unit shuts off). The faucet itself has no leaks of any kind.

I've considered pressure sensitive switches to turn off the incoming water, but faucet pressure isn't high enough to trigger many of them.

GE says to not use this unit with a pressure tank, except for the backflush tank/port.

I can replace the manifold on this system ($125) - but if I don't have a good chance of fixing it, I don't want to do that... Can anyone explain how these systems shut off mechanically and if there are any issues going from airgap to non-airgap faucet (the unit should support either).

I have installed over 300 of these and now the GE has sent the residential water program down the drain and does not support it, you would be better off replacing the Merlin with a Watts RO4 from costco. I have had the same issues, back flushing the Merlin, replacing filters, post filter, etc, i have more than 25 yr's of industrial RO experience so it's not like this is new technology. Pentair is the new distributor and they are equally non helpful as GE was.
I came away as other professionals that GE brought this to the market to quickly. M advise, bite the bullet and just buy another system. I have out of pocket replaced these with Watts for customers with no re address from the two wholesalers or GE or Pentair. In the end I think the Merlin is a piece of garbage.

Hi dginther,

You could rig a 1/2" or 3/8" Normally Closed Solenoid Valve
with a lamp controler. Or you can wire a switch next to the faucet so you can conviniently open the feed to your unit and get the most out of your investment.

Thanks, Dave.
I ended up dropping this unit.
The major issue was high TDS at start up. I had about a 60% reduction in TDS at start up, compared to a 95% reduction after running the water for several minutes. GE "fixed" this by added a backflush tank (simple pressure tank) to the unit, but that required that you ran enough volume to actually fill the tank.. This thing just doesn't work well for moderate use applications.

That's such a &^%$#$^&^. The main selling point when Merlin was launched was that it didn't need a reservoir tank. Post it on Ebay and get some money back.
