I'm switching from a galvanized tank with air intake and controls to a bladder tank. Do I have to worry about air accumulating in bladder tank? I probably need to remove the Schrader valve on the upstream side of the check valve to keep air from getting pulled into the line when the pump shuts off. I'd appreciate some confirmation. The system is in a cabin that gets "winterized" (drained) for much of the winter and I want to make sure all of the water gets out of any lines aboev gorund. Thanks for the help.

You will probably get air no matter if you remove the schrader valve or not. You will have to lift the drop pipe and plug the hole or remove the bleeder if you have one. There are several ways to make the drop pipe drain, you simply have to disable same.

Removing the schrader will probably just slow down the amount of time it takes to drain.

Richard:

There's a small book called "Cottage Water Systems" by Max Burns. I got myne through Amazon.com. It's a great book about water supply, small pumps, raincatchers, septics systems and all related topics to cabin hidraulics. The author is Canadian so winterization is properly covered along with DIY gadgets to make this easy.

I've recommended this book so many times I'm gonna charge this guy royalties.

Hope this helps,

David
