What is a sump pump?

A sump pump is a pump used to remove the water that has accumulated in a sump basin or storage tank, commonly found in the basement of homes. Generally, the water will enter via perimeter drains that will drain into the basin because of rain or natural ground water due to old or poor residential water proofing. Sump pumps are mostly used in basement where flooding happens regularly and to remedy dampness where the water table is above the foundation of a home. They send water away from the flooded area to locations such as a municipal storm drain or a dry well.
